Dr.
Beni Gesundheit will deliver the lecture on the topic of "Alenu
Le-Shabeach." An expert in medical ethics, Dr. Gesundheit is a
physician in the bone marrow transplant unit at Hadassah Hospital.
The KRA Fourth Anniversary Celebration will follow services. Rabbi
Mintz will deliver comments in honor of the anniversary and we will
have a special festive Kiddush/lunch. |

Yahrzeit Program to commemorate the 26th Yahrzeit of Jamie Lehmann,
z"l, and the 11th Yahrzeit of Dr. Manfred R. Lehmann, z"l, will be held
this year on Monday, June 16, 2008 at the Fifth Avenue Synagogue, 6:45
pm mincha ( 7 pm program) The topic for this year's lecture is "Man of
the People: The Americanization of Moses." It is presented by Jenna
Weissman Joselit, Professor of Modern Judaic and American Studies,
Princeton University. Collation will follow the program. |

| This Week In Jewish History - Rabbi Escapes Crusaders (1147) |

Rabbi Yaakov ben Meir Tam, known as the "Rabbenu Tam," was one of 's illustrious grandsons. During the Second Crusade, on the second day of the holiday of , the Crusaders entered his hometown of Rameru, and pillaged and massacred many Jews.
They broke into Rabbenu Tam's house, plundered all his wealth, and
seriously wounded Rabbenu Tam. On the next day, the 8th of Sivan,
Rabbenu Tam escaped Rameru and the clutches of the Crusaders.
Two years later he completed his famous treatise on Jewish ritual and ethics, Sefer Hayashar. |
